I am continually amazed by the strength of the human spirit. I say that because there are times when small things take on new significance. Jacksonville City Government like cities all over the country has had to balance tight budgets and make hard choices. One of the hard choices this year was to not fund an annual event that has been a staple for years during the holiday season: The Jacksonville Boat Light Show. I heard the announcement on the radio that the light show had lost funding and breathed a sigh for my adopted city; thinking that some of the joy had gone out of Christmas and chalked it up to so many things we all have had to do without.

But the human will is a powerful thing, and members of the local boat club went out and gathered sponsors, individual owners committed to participate and the event was back on!
Others evidently felt as I did because the main viewing site was packed 10 deep and kids were everywhere. There were big and small boats decorated with style and a sense of humor, and I saluted them all for refusing to give up.
Of course I took my camera to take pictures and video clips. The short video I have created can be seen by clicking the word Gallery is a “Thank You” to all the people who worked so hard to not give in to gloom and doom and decided to celebrate the season.
